Knocking a Rescued Bot out of a Bot Wall will unlock the Wall Buster trophy in Astro Bot. At the Crash Site, you can call on your Rescued Bots to help unlock new areas or find new Bots and Puzzle Pieces. Sometimes the Rescued Bots will stack on top of each other to transform into a Bot Wall that you can walk up. Press down on the D-Pad to emote while standing in front of Crash Bandicoot. Give Astro Bot a chance to complete a full dance with Crash Bandicoot to collect the Let’s Twist Again trophy. If you give Kratos Bot a friendly punch at your Crash Site, he’ll use his axe to freeze you into an ice cube.
One track that stands out is the music at the Luna Sola level. Its gimmick focuses on a day/night cycle, and the way Young composed it is genius. The day portion has music that’s a lot more jazzy, while the switch to nighttime sounds more like a lullaby. There are many touches like this throughout the game, but the best and most stellar music is reserved for the boss battles. As fun as the gameplay and nostalgic references are, what really makes Astro Bot’s gameplay so great is the accompanying music.
This walkthrough shows all collectibles in each level for 100% game completion and all trophies. Master Onion is the secret 301st bot, the last one you’ll unlock in the game. Astro Bot has proved incredibly popular for PlayStation, having sold 1.5 million units in its first two months on sale and earned a 9/10 in IGN’s review. “A fantastically inventive platformer in its own right, Astro Bot is particularly special for anyone with a place in their heart for PlayStation,” we said. “Unlike our last update Winter Wonder, which was a walk through the Xmas park, this new update features harder levels to test your jumping skills,” said director of developer Team Asobi, Nicolas Doucet. Detailed in a PlayStation Blog post, Tick-Tock Shock is the first level available now.
Crash Site serves as a kind of hub world, in which players can find 35 Bots and 11 Puzzle Pieces. Sony just never seemed to have an answer to Nintendo’s Mario or Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Crash Bandicoot was an iconic character that was exclusive to the PlayStation at the time, but he belonged to a third-party studio. And while Toro from the Doko Demo Issho series reached mascot-like status in Japan, the cute feline character was hardly known outside of PlayStation’s home country. Astro Bot contains 430 Collectible Locations (300 Bots, 120 Puzzle Pieces, 10 Lost Galaxy Secret Levels).
The game is simple, and some might think that it’s way too easy to play the game. If anything, the game might be a little too easy to play, as its intended target audience is anyone that’s able to launch the game. As the game will have even more challenges and a new speedrun mode to be included for free, this might not even be a con when it does release eventually. To put it simply, Astro Bot is quite literally a complete package. Each aspect of the game is superb and should be taken as the gold standard of how to release a game.
Younger players who aren’t familiar with it will surely want to learn more about the monkey-catching game when the level ends. Just like how Team Asobi did it for Astro’s Playroom, Astro Bot has a ton of PlayStation Easter Eggs. Besides the standard Bots, there are over 100 bots that are dressed up as past PlayStation characters. There are even soem dressed up as characters from third-party games, like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. All the VIP bots are well thought out, as each one has tongue-in-cheek descriptions and is all-around adorable.
Continuing with the God of War example, Astro will use the Leviathan Axe to attack enemies, and just like Santa Monica’s action games, it can be thrown and recalled, freezing enemies and helping progress through the stage. We won’t spoil the others, but PlayStation fans will be delighted with these Astro Bot renditions of some favourite franchises. Astro Bot’s world is filled with detailed animations and responsive environments that react to the player’s movements.
This is joined by a PlayStation 5 Pro patch, which allows the best resolution while running at 60 frames per second. It really feels like the developers thought of everything, and thanks to their efforts, Astro Bot is pure joy in video game form. I went into it with high expectations thanks to Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, and it not only met my expectations, but completely exceeded them. It’s the best 3D platformer since Super Mario Odyssey hit the scene in 2017 and will be remembered as an all-time classic of the genre.

The only things that players need to watch out for are the circular disk on the ground that needs to be slammed with both hands and the tilting platforms. They can make the latter steeper using Astro’s jets, which will in turn allow them to skip over a couple of bananas.

Every planet in Astro Bot provides its own unique challenges, often requiring players to think outside of the box or make use of special power-ups or hero skills. Fully completing every stage in Astro Bot will likely take around 16 hours, and many, many failed attempts. That said, it’s rather easy to get sucked into the charm of Astro Bot and get lost in the nostalgia of it all. I mean, when there are so many collectibles and elements going on, it may seem like a lot.
Somehow, you were no longer playing Astro Bot, but were fully immersed in whatever game the developer wanted you to be in.
